Stanislaus Joris
Former librarian and archivist of Averbode Abbey who acquired many manuscripts for the abbey during his tenure. Born in Balen on December 21, 1819 to Andreas Joris and Margarita Sels, he entered the abbey in 1837 and took vows in 1839. By 1842 he was appointed librarian, a post he held until his death in 1890. A passionate bibliophile and collector, he was a close friend of Edward Van Even, the city archivist of Leuven.
